Final Fantasy X - Blitzball Leveling
Last Friday we played Final Fantasy X (FFX) on my PC at Joe's place. This was the second night that we have played this on my gaming rig. We played through this game a few years ago on the Playstation 2 (PS2) but we were unable to unlock all the Ultimate Weapons due to time constraints (and steady hands). Since I now had a gaming rig that allowed us to play PS2 games at 100-300 FPS, we decided to go back through it again.
This will be my 3rd time through this game. I was actually playing FFX when I was living in the apartments where I met Joe back in 2001. Gosh, that seems like so long ago.
We focused on Blitzball tonight, leveling up our players to learn Key Techs and other Techs. I soon realize that we needed a strategy for organizing the Techs we have learned for each player, as well as some aids to help quickly determine where to position a player that wanted to learn a tech from a LF (Left Front) or RD (Right Defense).
I started working on this in excel, and you can view my document at google docs. This is a list of techniques per player. We also created these pages that we slipped into a plasic sheath so we could write on them in dry erase markers. This would help us track which techniques we were trying to learn by which player. This helped us ensure we created the scenarios during the matches that would provide the best chance to Techcopy the techniques.

For snacks I brought over Taco Bell Grande meal and I ate more Tacos and Mountain Dew that I probably should have. The computer worked well for the night, and we sure utilized the Save and Restore states a lot.
At one point we have moved into the second half of a game with 0 points to 3. We had been passing the ball the first half for EXP. The second half turned out to be VERY challenging. Only through using save and restore points at about 8 different points in the game, were we able to tie the game and then win in Overtime. I think we were playing the Al-Bed Psychs.
It was a fun night, and we are enjoying playing through FFX the second time just as much as the first.
Happy Game Nights!
